mA – MILLIAMP METER INSTALL – CNC Co2 Laser Engraving / Cutting Machine – How to install ammeter

In this video I install a mA Meter (ammeter / milliamp meter) on a Co2 Laser. This is a simple process that requires care and knowledge of your system! WARNING (See 0:28)
I Recommend a 0-30ma ammeter for Co2 Laser tubes up to 80W – https://mwlaser.com.au/product/cloudray-30-50ma-ammeter/

A LIST OF UPGRADE PARTS I USED CAN BE FOUND HERE: https://mwlaser.com.au/upgrades-for-red-black-chinese-laser/

Firstly I downloaded the wiring diagram for my laser power supply (0:35)
I provide a visual explanation of the wiring configuration required for my Red/Black x700 Chinese Laser Machine 80w. (See 0:47)

I then referred this knowledge of the wiring layout to locate these wires on the actual machine (see 1:43)

After this I prepared the ma meter by wiring two wires to the – & + poles (see 2:16) securing and insulating the wires with electrical tape, labelling the ends with – & + so that once inside the machine the are connected in correct configuration. (See 2:33) I then cable tied these two cables to make the installation tidy and secure.

I cut the negative wire from the laser tube where the ma meter will be installed in series. A brief explanation / recap is provided at (3:04)

Both wires were soldered together and insulated, then secured inside the machine to ensure that they do not get caught on anything and stay away from the cooling fans.

(3:50) I then tested the ma meter by pulsing the laser and checking that the ammeter moved in a positive direction. If it moves in a negative direction the poles have been wired up incorrectly.

As a further test I ran a cut at 40% power and checked the ma meter was working.

If you have any questions please ask, please take care if you decide to install one yourself, IF UNSURE – contact a trained professional.

Thanks for Visiting.
Until next time, take care
