What is the purpose of fiber optic cutting machines? What materials can be cut?

At present, laser fiber cutting machines are the most popular cutting machines used in laser cutting processing on the market, with outstanding characteristics such as wide cutting range, fast cutting speed, and excellent results. Especially when cutting metal sheet materials, fiber optic cutting machines have more advantages.

Fiber optic cutting machines have now become indispensable processing equipment in the modern sheet metal industry. With the upgrading of the industry and the improvement of processing requirements, not only has efficiency been greatly improved, but also in terms of operational optimization, they have reached the pinnacle. So what is the purpose of fiber optic cutting machines? What materials can be cut? Let’s take a look at the editor’s introduction!

1. High carbon steel

When the laser fiber cutting machine uses O2 as the processing gas for production, the edges of the laser cutting will be slightly oxidized. Plates with a thickness of up to 4 millimeters can be laser cut using N2 as the production and processing gas. In this case, the laser cutting edge is not easily oxidized. A plate with a thickness of over 10mm can be used for the unique electrode plate of the steel fiber cutting machine, and the surface of the product blank can be coated with oil during production and processing, achieving good practical results.

2. Copper and brass

Both materials have high light transmittance and good thermal conductivity. Brass within 1 millimeter can be cut using N2 laser. Copper within 2 millimeters can be cut by laser, so O2 must be used for production and processing gas. Laser cutting of copper and brass is only possible when a “reflection absorption” device is installed in the system software. Otherwise, the reflection will damage the electron optics components.

3. Stainless steel

Stainless steel is the most widely chosen material in various fields. When laser fiber cutting machine is used to cut stainless steel, the edges are oxidized without being affected. N2 is used to obtain an unoxidized hairless edge. Coating oil film on the surface of the board can achieve better perforation effect, but reducing production and processing quality is not easy to achieve.

4. Aluminum

Aluminum is designed for fiber laser cutting machines. Although the transmittance and thermal conductivity are high, aluminum within 6mm can be cut by laser based on the alloy type and laser working ability. When using oxygen laser cutting, the laser cutting surface is rough and hard. Using N2, the laser cut surface becomes smooth. It is very difficult to cut pure aluminum with high-purity laser, so only when the “reflection absorption” device is installed in the system software of the optical fiber laser cutting machine, can we cut aluminum with laser, otherwise the reflection will damage the electron optics components.

5. Titanium

Titanium plates use argon and N2 as production and processing gases, and are cut by laser. Other main parameters can refer to nickel chromium steel.
