Ortur just sent me their newest laser, the Aufero Laser 1, so lets see what it can do! We’ll try cutting and engraving various materials, and go over setting it up with Lightburn. This is the easiest laser engraver I’ve used so far.

Today we Upgrade the Ortur Laser Master 2. We are going to install 3 awesome upgrades to this great Cheap Desktop Laser Engraver Machine! There are a ton of upgrades for the Ortur Lasers and today we will feature the Z Axis Focus Master Kit, Belt Tensioner Set and Retainer feet! The OLM is a great machine out of the box, but these upgrades make it better! When you are done with the upgrades don’t forget to make the GRBL changes to account for the size. I prefer the Ortur 20w for Laser Engraving and it’s given me great results!

Black Metal Laser Spray by Brilliance Laser Inks is an aerosol spray designed for marking metals in combination with CO2 and fiber lasers. Nowadays diode lasers become very strong, so I wanted to find out what can we do with 5W or 10W diode lasers too. Tested materials: stainless steel, regular steel, aluminum, brass and copper.

With every setting: S1000 (max power), M3 (constant power). 14 Lines/mm (started with 12), Speed variate.
10W (Atomstack P9)
Stainless steel: 1600 mm/min
Regular steel: 800 mm/min
Alu: 100 mm/min (marking strong, but black color visible on scratching object)
Brass: 400 mm/min (marking looks very durable on 2 days test, but scratchable with sharp object)
Copper: 200 mm/min marking strong but it’s coming down if scratched.

This week, we’ll be talking to Seerat, a student at Jean Augustine Secondary School in Brampton, ON. She did her co-op at Trotec and she will talk about her two amazing projects she did with the Trotec Speedy 360 laser cutting machine.
Her first project is an acrylic lamp that’s UV printed and hold and LED light for illumination. Her second project is laser cut paper objects pasted on a painted canvas.
Trotec laser cutters are great for any secondary school, as Serat mentioned the laser software is extremely easy to learn and it lets kids create wonderful works of art, technology and more with these laser cutting machines!
