We go hands-on with a new laser cutter and engraver with a unique fold-up design. The Rendyr Optic is a diode laser cutter that can collapse into a compact formfactor ideal for small workshops, complete with built-in smoke filtration. Jen and Norm run the Optic through its paces and discuss the benefits and tradeoffs of this portable design. Note: we tested the Optic pototype and recorded this video back in the summer of 2021. Welcome to more exspudiments! Today we exspudiment with making a laser cutter/2D printer, that is almost kind of a 3D printer but not really. It can analyze a flat painting on a wall and carve it out of a carboard wall, giving you a real world version of your 2D pixel art drawing! After a very long and tedious process of hooking up sensors and logic gates, we finally get to ahve some fun drawing silly pictures and making cut outs of them in cardboard.

In my review of Ortur Laser Master (15W) I tried to engrave some metal, but without success. Then two comments suggested to me to use mustard on the surface. First, I thought it is a joke, but then I found an interesting article, where somebody successfully used mustard and vinegar for stainless steel engraving (or better word is etching). I am also trying again the marker provided with the laser, since this is recommended in the manual.
